MONOTYPE Composition Caster Serial Number 28345

This late model English Composition Caster is a 16 x 17 unit shift machine and is equipped with unit adding, quadding and centering, Display attachment and lead and rule attachment. It has a Varigear drive whose motor has been overhauled and a new Varigear belt installed. This Compo will come with the necessary specialist tools, accessories for normal compostion, and Lead and Rule Attachment components. A 7/8 inch pump and piston, and a lead and rule pump and piston are also included. This machine is suitable for casting large compostion and display up to 24 point, and could cast up to 36 if the motor was slowed down with the necessary torque. US pipe connections have been fitted for ease of plumbing in. Moulds are not included.

This Super Caster is a very late model machine equipped with a FU drive, new style gearbox, and nozzle seating timing attachment. This machine has been refurbished and is equipped with a brand new motor. US pipe connections have been fitted for ease of plumbing in. This Super will come with the necessary specialist tools, accessories, and matrix holders to cast from English display matrices in addition to a US Display matrix holder and bridge. A 7/8 inch pump and piston, and a 1¼ inch pump and piston are also included. It currently has a 24 point mould fitted but it is not included.

MONOTYPE Thompson caster Serial Number 1053

This English Thompson made for the American Market is equipped with a variable speed drive and has a Cutler Hammer rheostat for the regulation of the nozzle temperature and an interrupter gear. It has been overhauled with a new ratchet gear for setting the pump pressure and a new holding down screw for the pump-engaging lever. The machine was received with this screw broken in the casting and had to be drilled out. A new hole was tapped and screws manufactured. It functions without problem. The machine is fitted with a center jet display mould and will come with a matrix holder for US 'Monotype' Display matrices. A box that came with the machine containing assorted parts, extra piston, and the following listed blades will be included (along with the 18 pt blade that is currently in the mould).

2 'Monotype' Super Casters

Two Supers being sold together for spares or refurbishment neither complete. The caster from Mouldtype was casting 72 point when taken off line the other used for spares. Both are old style machines meaning they have the original gearbox and not a Varigear. Only have pictures of one machine. As is.

2 'Monotype' Super Casters

Theo Rehak's Lanston Monotype Orphan Annie

This machine proudly featured in Theo Rehak's seminal book Practical Typecasting as was completely overhauled by him personally. It has been in storage for many years and has a fair amount of dust, dirt, and surface rust on it all of which could be cleaned off with a bit of elbow grease. You will see from the pix that the cams and gears are rust free. Would need a bit of work to get online but it has made very nice type in its day and could be made to do so again. Comes with an electric pot which cold replace the gas pot and an entire extra gearbox for spare parts.
